How does {e}coaching work?

One-to-one coaching

Teachers: You are the kind of teacher who loves teaching, you believe in the importance of writing instruction, and you help kids learn to make their voices heard. Sometimes, though, it would be nice to have someone share the journey with you -- someone who can help refine, keep you sustained, and maybe even wave a magic wand when things aren't going quite the way you imagined. I can encourage you, nudge you to think in new ways, and inspire you (even without a magic wand!).

Coaches:  Who coaches the coach? This is a question I've asked many times in the past decade in my role as an instructional coach. You know the power of coaching and would like to tap into this power with someone you can trust to keep conversations confidential, while at the same time nudging you to grow and evolve as an instructional coach. I understand the way you are living between two worlds -- administration and teaching -- and the unique needs of your position. I'd love to spend some time in your corner of the world, encouraging and supporting you so you can empower best practice instruction even more.

Teacher-Writers: Maybe your fingers are burning to put ideas on the page, but you're unsure how to begin. I have a soft-spot for teacher-writers and would love to help you get started writing. I can support you in starting a blog, writing articles, or working on a book proposal. Your story matters. Don't let unknown territory keep you from putting words on the page!

Partners or Team Coaching

Have some colleagues who are all working toward a similar goal? Want some support as your team tries something new or adds another layer to an already existing unit? Having someone to organize and support your collaboration will make your plans come together.
We'll follow the same process as one-to-one coaching. There will be one goal as a focus for everyone.

Email Coaching

Email coaching is designed for those who prefer processing thoughts and emotions through writing. It can also work when schedules are tough to sync. Through a series of 8 emails we will plan, problem solve, and celebrate together.

(If you would like to keep all of the information in one place, we can use a reflective practice journal via Google Drive instead of email.)
Getting Started:
  1. Contact me and let me know you are interested in working together.
  2. I'll respond via email and we'll determine if we are a good match.
  3. You'll complete the Welcome Questionnaire.
  4. We'll develop goals for our work together.
8 Email Coaching Sessions:
  1. You determine the pace of the sessions.
  2. My responses will include feedback, questions, and resources to support and encourage you.
Final Reflection:
  1. Complete a final reflection to see your growth and make a plan to continue on your path of professional development.

School-wide coaching

You know the power of instructional coaching, but a full-time coach isn't a reality for your world. Why not select a few teachers who are already cutting-edge and provide them with the benefits of coaching without the cost? I'll work with you as you focus to create strong and powerful writers in narrative, opinion, and informative genres.

You can also tailor professional development to the needs of your staff. By developing a relationship with a core group of teachers, I will gain insight into the strengths and needs of your staff. I can provide on-site professional development, by modeling writing workshop in a classroom and supporting collaboration around different topics of teaching writers.

The purpose of our work is for year-long support.
Package for Schools
